چکیده

Given a coloring of the vertices, we say subgraph H is monochromatic if every vertex of H is assigned the same color, and rainbow if no pair of vertices of H are assigned the same color. Given a graph G and a forbidden graph F , we define an F -WORM coloring of G as a coloring of the vertices if G without a rainbow or monochromatic subgraph isomorphic to F . We explore such colorings especially as regards to the existence, complexity, and optimization within certain graph classes. Our focus is on the case that F is a cycle or a complete graph.

Equitable Online-Colorings of Random Graphs

A proper graph coloring is called equitable if the sizes of every two color classes differ by at most one. We consider the following generalized notion of graph colorings: a vertex coloring of graph G is valid w.r.t. some fixed nonempty graph F if no color class induces a copy of F in G, i.e., there is no monochromatic copy of F in G. We propose and analyze an algorithm for computing valid equi...

Two-colorings with many monochromatic cliques in both colors

Color the edges of the n-vertex complete graph in red and blue, and suppose that red k-cliques are fewer than blue k-cliques. We show that the number of red k-cliques is always less than ckn , where ck ∈ (0, 1) is the unique root of the equation z = (1 − z) + kz(1 − z)k−1. On the other hand, we construct a coloring in which there are at least ckn k −O(nk−1) red k-cliques and at least the same n...

Forbidding Rainbow-colored Stars

We consider an extremal problem motivated by a paper of Balogh [J. Balogh, A remark on the number of edge colorings of graphs, European Journal of Combinatorics 27, 2006, 565–573], who considered edge-colorings of graphs avoiding fixed subgraphs with a prescribed coloring. More precisely, given r ≥ t ≥ 2, we look for n-vertex graphs that admit the maximum number of r-edge-colorings such that at...

Outerplanar and planar oriented cliques

The clique number of an undirected graphG is the maximum order of a complete subgraph of G and is a well-known lower bound for the chromatic number ofG. Every proper k-coloring of G may be viewed as a homomorphism (an edge-preserving vertex mapping) of G to the complete graph of order k. By considering homomorphisms of oriented graphs (digraphs without cycles of length at most 2), we get a natu...

A superclass of Edge-Path-Tree graphs with few cliques

Edge-Path-Tree graphs are intersection graphs of Edge-Path-Tree matrices that is matrices whose columns are incidence vectors of edge-sets of paths in a given tree. Edge-Path-Tree graphs have polynomially many cliques as proved in [4] and [7]. Therefore, the problem of finding a clique of maximum weight in these graphs is solvable in strongly polynomial time. In this paper we extend this result...
